Squishy circuit

Hey everyone...

Did you know that a Science festival happened in UAE ? Well, If you don't know, the science festival is about Science, of course 😉😉😉!!! There were different workshops there. If you go to their website, you can choose your age and any 2 of the workshops.

I chose Squishy circuits and Scientist lab. I am gonna talk to you about Squishy circuits in this blog post.

Ever wonder how to make electricity by yourself at home by using just clay dough???

Do you know what is the main ingredient in this clay dough?

Drum roll please...it's SALT !

SALT contains Na-Cl which is short for Sodium Chlorine. Na-Cl has ions which are part of the electricity. The other things you need are a battery box 🔋 with 4 AA batteries with two wire connected to it. The two wires are in black and red color. Red is positive and black is negative. Also, you need a LED.

Let's start with the experiment 🔎🔎🔎..
You need to split your clay dough into two balls. Next, you need to connect one wire of the battery box to each clay ball. Now, let's connect the LED to finish the circuit. So..How to connect the LED??

For that, take a close look at the LED. One line will be longer than the other. Long one is positive and the short one is negative. Connect the positive to the clay ball with red wire and negative to the clay ball with the black wire. Make sure both the balls doesn't touch each other. You have to stretch the LED to do this..Now...KABOOOOOOM!!!!! Your LED lights up!

Do you know how it works?? First, the electricity from the battery box travels through the wire and into the salt clay ball. The salt in the clay conducts the electricity. Then it passes from the clay ball into the LED and the LED lights up!!!

But, if you connect both the wires in one big ball and place the LED in the same big ball, it won't light up. Because, the electricity is lazy and it takes a short circuit!!

I learnt something new and I hope you enjoyed my experiment.

Look out for my next post on Scientist Lab !! Bye!
