Elo my ppl how u doin. Hope doin good. Here I am with yet another book review on a inspiring real-life story comic by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohammed!
Less get innit..
WHEN THE STARS ARE SCATTERED
This story is about Omar and his brother, Hassan who have lived almost their whole life in Dadaab, a refugee camp in Kenya. Dadaab is also made up of 3 separate camps. Hagadera, Dagahaley and Ifo. Omar lives in the Ifo Camp which stands for City of Light. But life is really hard there for everyone. Not much food most of the time and its really boring. But mainly it also doesn't have the medical treatments needed for Hassan, Omar's nonverbal bro. Of course there were schools and everything but Omar never went there. He stayed at home to take care of his brother. His dad died Somalia and his mom was nowhere to be found. His legal-kinda guardian, Fatuma, took care of Hassan and Omar like they were her own sons.
Then there's also Omars best friend, Jeri. He and Jeri used to play soccer with a bunch of other A2 boys with plastic bags. Soon, a dude named Salan came up to Omar and asked if he would go to school. He said it would help him in the future if he was going to be resettled in America or elsewhere. (When I say resettled i mean when the UN chooses random ppl from the camp so they could go to a few interviews to see if their story was dangerous enough to let them go to another country). So Omar couldn't refuse the offer. Soon Salan also gives Omar a notebook and a pencil as a gift as soon as he started school. Omar started to go to school, excited but worried of Hassan at the same time. He was one of the few kids who actually had notes written down as many kids didn't have books or pencils. He also had a few other friends like Nimo and Maryam, the top students. Fast forward , its been 2 years even since and nothing has changed.
Now Omar and Hassan are in Middle School, one of the few kids who actually got into it. A few things happened like Omar and Hassans interview and Hassans seizure and Maryam getting married.
Fast forward 4 years later, they. are. still. there. Now Omar and Jeri are in Secondary School. So FuN. This is when the good news cmae. Omar and Hassan got another interview for a resettlement. They went for millions of interviews... when they finally have been selected for resettlement to the United States of America.
Well i hope u ppl like the story cuz i did a lot. Well peace and imma see u ppl soon!
